Description

SIMN is a typeface developed with Simeon Freymond for his brand. Through our work, we uncovered a rhythm and identity that went beyond this single project. The typeface has two widths. It includes many alternates. Together, they challenge traditional ideas of what a sans-serif typeface can be

Aa
Alternate a
[01]

Alternate "a" contrast both in shape and style with its upper counterpart

Ee
Alternate e
[02]

Alternate "e" contrast both in shape and style with its upper counterpart

Yy
Alternate y
[03]

Alternate "y" contrast both in shape and style with its upper counterpart

Note 1
The uppercase are slightly wider than the lowercase but blend with it thank to a very small capheight.

The future

The width system will evolve into a three width-system. The current one will be the condensed and be join by a compressed with (removing completely the counter shapes) and a wider version than the condensed. More alternates will be drawn and all of those will be adapted for both lower and upper cases. In terms of weight, this will stay the same with a single weight system

Drawing process

Currently the concept for lowercases and uppercases are finished. The alternates are not all drawn and needs to be harmonised. Figures are done

Spacing & kerning

Spacing is done but kerning is not done yet. Probably some of the kerning will be avoided with ligatures. This is especially true for the letter "f"

Weights

The condensed weight is drawn and approximatively 30% of the semi-condensend. The compressed one is quite unique so it will require a bit more time and can't be extrapolated from the two other masters.
